The B-Movie Podcast: Man Eater – Lake Placid
October means one thing (other than pumpkin spice everything)… horror films! All month long we’re curating Horror-Themed double features. We begin our month with Lake Placid!
Lake Placid is the type of film that’s as much a horror film as it is comedy. You really can’t be a giant killer croc movie without being a bit of a comedy. David E. Kelly of Big Little Lies fame writes this script that’s as much a loving homage to those killer croc movies as it is a takedown of said subgenre and horror films in general. Its not the films plot that’s special but its barbed filled dialog and witty characterizations. I mean, it’s a killer croc movie, the plot is; killer croc shows up to kill, dumb scientist and law enforcement try to stop it. There are stereotypes and archetypes aplenty. Take your pick. From the dim bulb small town sheriff (Brendan Gleeson). To the plucky female scientist (Bridget Fonda). To the heroic outsider (Bill Pullman). To the lunatic mad scientist (Oliver Platt). To Betty White playing Betty White. Lake Placid has got all the stuff you need for a late Saturday night lights out screening. Set your fun meters to the Spinal Tap 11.
