The B-Movie Podcast: He disrespected the Wu-Tang Clan – The Man with the Iron Fists
If you want to know why we titled this particular double feature “He disrespected the Wu-Tang Clan” just go ahead and google that. You’ll get all the details because we’re not mentioning the particular person it was about. We’re here to talk about the talented multi-hyphenate RZA of the Wu-Tang clan and his directorial debut THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS! Yes, it does have to be all capitalized because you don’t F with the Wu-Tang.
Anyone that has a passing knowledge or love of The Wu-Tang Clan and RZA will know of The Band and his obsession with Martial Arts films. Specifically, love of the 1970’s Era Shaw Brothers films starring the indomitable Gordon Liu. Here we find RZA starring, writing, producing and directing THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS his love letter to all things Martial Arts. Not just a homage this is a fully realized world that both he and Roth as screenwriters create. The town of Jungle Village and the dangerous men and women that come to said village to grab at gold and power (what else is there?). RZA plays the Blacksmith a man with a shadowy past and a dream to get out of Jungle Village with the woman he loves. Oh, how quickly do those dreams diminish as making weapons for all sides of a tenable conflict comes to bare down on the Blacksmith thus changing him forever to THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS! Add in Russell Crowe in a truly awesome Oliver Reed Inspired performance.
