The B-Movie Podcast: Star Wars-ish Cops ‘n Robbers – Valerian 3D
A long time ago, in a Drive-In not so far Away…
Welcome to our Month long series of Star Wars inspired/ripped off films! That’s right Ladies and Gents, in honor of Star Wars: The Last Jedi we got a month of double features, special guest and more!!! We continue with two Star Wars homages this time with Cops ‘n Robbers next is Valerian 3D.
Valerian aka Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is Luc Besson unleashed. More than any other film it feels like Besson is unhindered by anything his wild imagination can think of. This unleashing of Besson feels like a tidal wave of ideas that overwhelm the view when you first watch Valerian. Even upon third, fourth and fifth viewing, it feels all too much to take in visually. One is thankful that the story is so streamlined (never call it basic). Breathless is an adjective that is bounded around many-many times for films. Most times it does not feel applicable or appropriate to describe the project. It is entirely fitting to call Valerian and the City of a Thousand breathless as it leaves one sputtering confounded by everything in this film though with all Besson films, it’s wrapped in such a candy-coated wrapping… to deny it’s entertainment is to deny one of the most delightful surprises of 2017.
