The B-Movie Podcast: Milius the Magnanimous – The Lion and the Wind (1975)

John Milius is not just a B-Movie Icon… he’s a legend.  Yes, a legend.  The stories of the bigger than life writer/director/surfing/gun fanatic are things of myth.  They wouldn’t be as big if his films weren’t as legendary.  The Lion and the Wind finds Milius in his prime and at his best.  An adventure film that see Eden (Candice Bergen) and her two children being kidnapped by the Raisuli (Sean Connery) in a sort of negotiation tactic to force US President Teddy Roosevelt to involve the US in his loosing war against the Germans.  The Lion and the Wind is part historical non-fiction, part pulp adventure, part fictionalization and all Milius with his particular brand of storytelling.  A tall tale of the highest order.
