The B-Movie Podcast: Matinee Idols – The Man from U.N.C.L.E. w/ Special Guest Kristen Lopez
We have special guest Kristen Lopez on the podcast to talk about The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
This is the Guy Ritchie movie that should have hit. We shouldn’t be seeing Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin. We should be seeing The Man from U.N.C.L.E. II or The Return of Man from U.N.C.L.E. or The Men from U.N.C.L.E. (I like conceiving of sequel titles for this movie, it’s a lot of fun). Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer are in full charming super star mode. As Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin the actors are the spy versions of Butch and Sundance (reverse that). Add in Jared Harris and Hugh Grant as their handlers. Alicia Vickander and Elizabeth Debicki as the kick butt female leads. Throw in Ritchie as a director who understands that he doesn’t have to play by the Bondian rules of the spy genre though he’s in a Bondian riff. Stir, don’t shake said ingredients and voila! The results are stunning. A film that’s playful, fun, sexy, stylish and most of all entertaining in a way that Bond can never be. Buckle up for the maximum amount of Cold War Era fun. Plus, who knows maybe you won’t The Man from U.N.C.L.E. such a relic with considerations to the current global state of 2017.
