The B-Movie Podcast: Action Wasteland – Mad Max: Fury Road 3D
This week in honor of the most American of holidays we’re celebrating the most American of sci-fi sub-genres the Post-Apolocalypse! Post-Apolocalypse in movies that is. We as a society are not there… yet.
We end our four films for Fourth of July with Mad Max: Fury Road 3D. Much has already been said and discussed about George Miller’s instant classic. Here on the B-Movie podcast we lionize this film and the work of Dr. Miller in the same way that most lionize the works of Renoir, Ozu, Ford. Top lined by a cast led by Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy this isn’t a fly-by-night action film. This is a film that has A LOT on its mind beyond it’s mindboggling amazing oh-sh*t-how-did-they-do-that stunt work. It took Miller over fifteen years to make Fury Road from its inception (he was walking down the street and saw a big rig tanker and thought of not one movie but three movies as the return of Max Rockatansky) to it unleashing onto the world. Every ounce of blood, sweat, tears and chrome are on screen. Let us hope that it isn’t another fifteen until Dr. Miller schools the world on what it seems that he and Akira Kurosawa know how to do; action spectacle with more on its mind than just the next set piece.
